Frequently asked questions for growers
How do I become a Local Blooms grower?
Once our platform launches, apply to be a grower and let us know details about where you're located, what type of flowers you grow, what type of arrangements you'd like to offer, how many arrangements you'd like to sell each week, what months you'll be available to sell arrangements, and whether your arrangements will be available for delivery, pickup, or both.
Once your application is approved, we'll process your annual membership fee and you can begin creating your profile and posting your listings.
Who can be a Local Blooms grower?
ANYONE can be a Local Blooms grower - no matter how small or large your growing space is - all we ask is that you:
grow the flowers you use in your arrangements (supplementing with flowers from other local growers is okay but please only use flowers grown in your area)
are able to create beautiful, quality arrangements that are healthy and have good vase life
provide excellent customer service to our customers and help us exceed their expectations
commit to sustainable growing practices- avoiding the use of harsh chemicals whenever possible, avoiding plastic packaging for arrangements, and caring well for the earth and our pollinators
Why is there a membership fee?
Our annual membership fees are to help us maintain excellent product quality and ensure that anyone who creates a grower profile is a real person who actually grows flowers and wants to sell beautiful bouquets.
That being said, we are deeply committed to keeping this platform accessible to growers of all scales - from a small backyard grower who wants to sell 1 or 2 mason jar bouquets a week to a flower farm who is able to sell hundreds of various size arrangements throughout the season. For 2025, the membership fee will be a flat $25 for all growers. In the future, we anticipate having various membership levels to accommodate differing grower needs. Our goal is to keep these membership fees as low as possible, seeking a balance between recruiting quality growers and allowing the site to be accessible and profitable for any committed grower who wants to use it.
And if the membership fee is a barrier to you joining Local Blooms, please reach out directly to us and let us know - we'd love to work with you to make it possible - we want this experience to be accessible to all flower growers who want to be part of our community
How does pricing for my arrangements work?
You set the prices for your arrangements, according to what is fair market pricing for your region for the type of arrangement and type of flowers you are using. We ask our growers to set prices that provide value for our customers, fair compensation for our growers, and avoid under-cutting other local growers - respect the hard work that you and your fellow growers are investing into this endeavor and price accordingly.
If you need help with guidelines for pricing in your area, reach out and we'll be happy to help you. And if we notice prices that seem much too low or much too high for the market, Local Blooms will kindly ask you to adjust them to help us create a fair marketplace for everyone.
What type of arrangements can I offer?
This is entirely up to you - based on the types of flowers you grow, your skill and style of arranging them, the resources you have, and your personal preferences. Be creative and if you're able, offer a variety of arrangements at various price points - market bouquets, mason jar bouquets, more elaborate arrangements, etc.
We ask that you provide clear descriptions of your arrangements in your listings, including information about size, type of flowers, color palette, and the packaging / container you will be using. Please avoid using plastic packaging and try to use recycled / repurposed jars, vases, containers whenever you can.
How does delivery work?
Offering delivery for your arrangements isn't required, but we do highly encourage you to offer at least a few delivery bouquets each week. This gives you the opportunity to expand your potential customer base beyond your local area to people around the country who are looking to send flowers to someone who doesn't live near them. These customers would typically search for a local florist or use a 1-800-GENERIC FLOWERS-type service but now they can find you through Local Blooms and send a fresh local arrangement instead.
At this time, you will be responsible for delivering (or hiring someone else to deliver) any delivery orders you get. You will be able to set your available days / times and available delivery zip codes in your profile and listing. You will also be able to set a delivery fee to add on to the purchase price so that you are compensated for the extra time / expense of delivering. We suggest a fee somewhere between $10-15 per arrangement, but this will be dependent on you area and your availability.
We are working on contracting a third-party delivery service for our growers to use if they choose to - more details to come as soon as we have them!
At this time, Local Blooms arrangements will only be available by local pickup and local delivery - there will be NO shipping of orders.
How does pick-up work?
On your profile and in your listings, you specify where and when arrangements can be picked up. Depending on your circumstances and availability, this could be a set time each day or each week and could be at your home, your farmstand, a farmer's market booth, a local business, or a designated meeting spot - you get to decide what works best for you - just be sure to clearly specify this in the product description so that buyers are aware of the details before they purchase.
How do I get paid?
You set the price for your arrangement. Local Blooms uses a secure payment processing system to collect payment from the customer. Once order delivery or pickup is confirmed, Local Blooms will direct deposit the purchase price (minus a 10% commission) and any delivery charges into the account you have designated.
Example: Grower sells a $40 bouquet with a $14 delivery fee on Tuesday. Bouquet is delivered on Wednesday. After delivery on Wednesday, grower receives a direct deposit of $50 into their bank account (90% of $40= $36; $36 arrangement price + $14 delivery fee = $50)
Can I add a link to my website or describe other services I offer (CSA, weddings, wholesale, etc,) on my profile? Can customers contact me directly to order?
Local Blooms' mission is to bring awareness to the benefits of locally grown flowers and bring attention to local flower growers. So we would be delighted to help customers connect with your farm or local flower business for services that can't be provided through the Local Blooms platform.
To do this, you can add a professional upgrade to your membership. This is an additional $100 annual fee and allows you to post links to your website and socials on your profile and describe additional services you offer.
We ask that you respect our customers and the Local Blooms platform by keeping pickup and delivery arrangement sales on the Local Blooms site and not directing customers directly to your site to purchase these items. But please feel free to use your Local Blooms professional profile to concisely promote any other services you offer - U-pick, subscriptions, classes and events, weddings, wholesale, seeds and tuber sales, etc. - and direct customers to your website to learn more about these services.
When will the 2025 Local Blooms season begin?
Our plan is to have our full platform launched by late spring so that growers can begin setting up their profiles.
For 2025, we're planning a 15-week selling season from mid June to early October to onboard all our new growers and make sure the new site runs efficiently and smoothly for our customers and growers. If we get enough interest in launching earlier, we may explore that possibility. So if you're anxious to start selling flowers in May or early June, let us know in the grower interest form and we'll see what we can do.
For 2026 and beyond, we plan to have a much more expanded season from spring through fall, possibly even year-round in some locations.
