About us

a kinder way to buy and send flowers

the challenge

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, many individuals discovered new joy and fulfillment in growing their own cut flowers. Since 2020, the number of flower growers in the U.S. has more than doubled, with many eager to share their blooms within their communities. However, unless they have access to a farmstand or farmers market booth, these passionate growers often face challenges in selling the abundance of flowers they cultivate.

Local flowers not only boast superior health benefits for humans and for the planet, they also offer unique and stunning varieties that stand apart from imported options.

As more people seek to buy or gift local flowers, they often struggle to find an accessible source for purchasing arrangements, especially when they want to send flowers to someone in another location.

This growing interest highlights the need for better connections between local flower growers and consumers, ensuring everyone can enjoy the beauty of homegrown blooms.

the opportunity

Local Blooms was created to bridge the gap between local flower growers and the people who love to enjoy local flowers.

Local Blooms is an online marketplace designed to make it easy for growers to list their arrangements and easy for shoppers to search for and order these arrangements for themselves or someone else.

Our Story

Local Blooms was founded by Rachel Kovacs, a pediatric oncology nurse, yoga teacher, and mom who finds solace in her backyard flower garden in Colorado.

Rachel loves sharing her bouquets with her friends and family. She created Local Blooms to help support other flower growers across the country who want to share their flowers with their communities.

Rachel loves books, spending time outside in Colorado, traveling, and learning. She loves (almost) all flowers but has a particular weakness for dahlias. Her dream is that everyone can experience the joy and unique beauty of fresh, locally grown flowers.
